NEUROBIOLOGY OF TRAUMA:
DEVELOPING SELF-SOOTHING SKILLS THROUGH ACTION METHODS.

Neuropsychology and brain plasticity literature demonstrate that through experiential action methods and embodiment practices, memories can be re-wired, and past events re-experienced, in ways that can actually shift personal narratives. Trauma rewires the brain and through trauma-informed action methods, like psychodrama, a person’s internal map and relationship to themselves and the world around them can be repaired when they can imagine or practice new ways of being. This workshop will explore the neurobiology of trauma and identify how defense systems that got them through the trauma have become ineffective and intrusive might be transformed. Various action strategies to manage distress will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to learn, practice, and integrate these skills to offer your clients the safety they need to do trauma-related work.

THE POWER OF DOUBLING:
A PSYCHODRAMATIC KEY TO HEALING TRAUMA

It is critical to healthy development for children to have their internal experiences accurately labeled by their caregivers. In this way, we come to know who we are and to identify our own thoughts, feelings, and needs. However, when the caregiver isn’t able to do this accurately and then, traumatic events, abuse and/or neglect are additionally present, the result can have devastating consequences. As a double for your client, you can improve the therapeutic bond and help reconstruct their narrative through support and empathetic attunement. The psychodramatic skill of doubling can both contain feelings that spin a client into dissociation or regression, as well as, help them express what seem inexpressible. This workshop will demonstrate different types of doubling and participants will have the opportunity to practice this skill so they can add it to their clinical toolbox.

CLEARWATER LOCATION:  4/7/19 9:30am-4:30pm $125 for 6 CEUs
ORLANDO LOCATION: 1/20/19 9:30am-4:30pm $125 for 6 CEUs ($75 intern)

ACCESSING RESOURCES AND RESILIENCY IN ACTION:
TRANSFORMING POWERLESSNESS TO EMPOWERMENT

Research on human resiliency consistently shows that having stable and supportive attachment to at least one other person helps clients “bounce back” from the devastating effects of trauma. In this workshop, resiliency role development will be explored and participants will learn to assist their clients in both internal and interpersonal ‘resource mining’. Trauma-informed psychodramatic interventions will be demonstrated to shift clients away from dysfunctional, self-sabotaging messages towards awareness of the strength and resiliency they already possess.
